Welcome! We love the sound of kids in our service. (Yes! That means the crying and the loud noises. It really is ok. We genuinely want to help. However, we also understand that we are not “mom” or “dad” or whatever toy that they currently want…again, it’s ok.)
Here are some ideas to keep them engaged:
Relax: It’s OK for kids to be kids.
Sit Close: Consider sitting up front where it’s easier for kids to see. (During special events, like baptism, we will invite them forward so they can see better.)
Explain: Kids are curious! Explain what’s happening in the service. And if you don’t know…tell them. But also say, “Let’s go ask Pastor Mark, or someone, after service and find out together.”
Participate: Kids learn by mimicking what you do. So sing, pray, respond, etc. Kids will follow your lead.
Wander: It’s OK to move around. Sometimes it’s easier to let fidgety kids wander.
Need to Leave?: No problem, but please come back! Sometimes kids just need a break. We do offer a “comfort room” by our nursery. However, sometimes they need a break to walk the hallways or get water from the fountain.
